Allergy Relief Tea Recipe

Allergy tea is a natural remedy often used to alleviate symptoms associated with seasonal allergies, such as sneezing, itchy eyes, congestion, and inflammation. The idea behind allergy-relief teas is that certain herbs and plants contain compounds with anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, and immune-boosting properties. These teas work to reduce the body's allergic response by calming the immune system and lessening histamine production, which is the main trigger for allergic reactions.

Elderflower and anise seeds are excellent additions to an allergy-relief tea due to their beneficial properties. Elderflower is known for its anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects, making it great for reducing sinus inflammation and easing congestion. Anise seeds help to loosen mucus and soothe respiratory irritation, providing extra relief for blocked sinuses or a cough.

Simple Allergy-Relief Tea Recipe

Ingredients:

ree
  • 1 tablespoon dried nettle leaf

  • 1 teaspoon dried peppermint

  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (or ½ teaspoon ground ginger)

  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder (or ½ inch fresh turmeric, grated)

  • 1 tablespoon lemon balm leaves (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon liquorice root (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon elderflower

  • ½ teaspoon anise seeds

  • 1 tablespoon local honey (to taste)

  • 1 slice of lemon (optional)

  • 2 cups boiling water

Directions:

  1. Mix the herbs: Combine the nettle, peppermint, ginger, turmeric, lemon balm, liquorice root, elderflower, and anise seeds in a bowl.

  2. Steep the tea: Add 1-2 teaspoons of the herb mixture into a tea strainer or teapot. Pour 2 cups of boiling water over the herbs and allow it to steep for 10-15 minutes.

  3. Strain: After steeping, strain out the herbs.

  4. Add honey and lemon: Stir in local honey and a slice of lemon for added flavour and Vitamin C.

  5. Enjoy: Sip the tea slowly and inhale the steam to open your nasal passages. Drink this tea 2-3 times a day during allergy season for the best effect.

How Each Ingredient Helps:

  • Nettle: A natural antihistamine that helps with sneezing and itching.

  • Peppermint: Clears blocked airways and reduces inflammation.

  • Ginger: Lowers inflammation and boosts the immune system.

  • Turmeric: A potent anti-inflammatory that soothes swelling and irritation.

  • Elderflower: Helps with sinus congestion and soothes inflamed airways.

  • Anise seeds: Loosens mucus and calms respiratory issues like coughing.

  • Local honey: Builds tolerance to pollen and soothes the throat.

  • Lemon balm: Reduces stress, which can make allergy symptoms worse.

  • Liquorice root: Helps soothe the respiratory system and relieve coughs.

This tea combines herbs that naturally relieve allergy symptoms and supports your body’s ability to fight off allergens. It's a great way to find comfort and relief without relying on antihistamines or decongestants that can sometimes cause drowsiness or other side effects.
